Friends of Penny Creek Natural Area

The FRIENDS OF PENNY CREEK NATURAL AREA is a community-based advocacy group dedicated to supporting the long-term protection, public access, ecological stewardship, and City of Mill Creek municipal ownership of the Penny Creek Natural Area (PCNA).

Located at 35th Ave SE and 132nd St SE in Mill Creek, PCNA encompasses 70 acres of rare urban green space featuring wetland, forest, and riparian habitats along Penny Creek. Home to more than 140 bird species, river otters, beavers, and diverse native flora, the natural area serves as a vital wildlife corridor, a climate-resilient natural sanctuary, and a quiet retreat for community connection and mental well-being.

Our work includes:

• Advocacy and Civic Action: Partnering with local leaders and mobilizing community members to urge city ownership and permanent protection of PCNA (currently owned by developer of The Farm). 

• Habitat Stewardship: Monitoring biodiversity, organizing community cleanups, and addressing infrastructure and safety needs.

• Community Education and Outreach: Publishing a community photobook showcasing local wildlife, conducting guided nature tours, and raising environmental awareness.
